Throughout my playing career and in anyone’s playing career, there are arenas/venues that as soon as you step out on the court, the crowd, the lights, the rims, the court floor design, and the significance of the day and opponent create a memory that you can never forget in your life as long as you live. There has been one arena that played an important part in my decision to pursue playing the game of basketball at the professional level for a living.
Holt Arena (Pocatello, ID)
Home of the Idaho State Bengals Basketball and Football Programs. A NCAA Division 1 experience every aspiring basketball player desires. I played my first season as a college basketball player here and was able to experience the importance of hard work and what it actually took to become a really good basketball player. Coming out of high school, every young athlete mentally feels that they are ready but for me it wasn’t until I had my first full day as a division 1 athlete that taught me the true meaning of what it took to become a great basketball player. From the early 6 am workouts, a full day of class, a 30 minute individual workout before lunch, a 3-hr practice, followed by a mandatory 2 hour study table session, the phrase “basketball can be a job” holds an extreme amount of validity in collegiate NCAA division 1 sports. When faced with tough challenging obstacles in collegiate sports, some rise to the daily challenges and some shy away. It was in my freshmen year at Idaho State University that I truly fell in love with “The Process” of truly working towards being a great basketball player.
